Clear Goals and Objectives

At Yemni English Club, we believe by clearly analyzing studentsf English and defining their goals, we can help students to improve their English more quickly. There should be a clear purpose to every lesson with achievable goals. Students should come away from each lesson with the sense they have learnt something new or have improved in someway.

Textbooks

There are many great textbooks available today. While we recommend instructors to use textbooks, it is not compulsory and we understand that not all students like using them. We believe that rather than arbitrarily following the textbook, having a lesson that is focused on the needs of the student keeps them enthusiastic and helps them achieve their goals. We trust our instructorsf judgment and we encourage them to be creative.

Accurate Level Checks

All instructors use the same level assessment sheet to evaluate studentsf English ability. Weak points and strong points are clearly defined in the evaluation and weak points are focused on in the lessons.

Radar Chart

The following areas are analyzed on the radar chart:

Talking contents level, Listening Comprehension, Vocabulary, Fluency, Pronunciation, Idioms, Grammar, Response speed

We use a 1-to-10 ranking system.

Level 1 - 3 Beginner

Level 4 - 6 Intermediate

Level 7 - 9 Advanced

Level 10 Native Level

A textbook is selected based on the studentsf level and a lesson menu is made.

The student may or may not choose to use a textbook. If you are required to suggest a textbook, please choose one from our recommended textbook list.

Reassessment

Students have a level reassessment check every 3 months. This provides both student and instructor with the opportunity to give each other feedback. Lesson content can be changed and goals can be redefined at this time. It is also a good time to ensure studentsf goals and needs are being met.

Lesson Procedure

Each lesson is 60minutes. We have designed a lesson plan to maximize student talking time and utilize the limited time that is available.

Model Lesson Style

Warm up 5 minutes

Time for the students to switch into gEnglish modeh. Topics can include recent personal news, current events, etc.

Text-based Practice 25 minutes

Textbooks provide a good lesson base as they typically cover all aspects of English: listening, grammar, vocabulary, etc.

Listening Practice 10 minutes

Here the instructor reads newspaper articles, stories or other written materials to increase the studentfs listening comprehension. Instructors should speak at a relatively natural speed but should always keep the studentfs level in mind.

Expansion 15 minutes

The instructor uses role plays and other situational activities to apply the lessons target and main points of the lesson. The instructor may need to introduce new vocabulary and structures for the activity to work.

Wrap-Up 5 minutes

Finally, feedback is given, contents of the next lesson are discussed and homework is assigned.

At Yemni English Club, we believe our lesson method provides students with a well-balanced lesson which enables quick improvement.

The above is a model and may be adapted to suit the needs of the students.

A large number of students believe that by just taking lessons they will improve. This is true to some extent, but students need to study on a daily basis if any real progress is to be made. As an instructor, it is your job to give encouragement and give advice on different ways to study and improve. Also, always try to set homework.
